Internet Content Filtering

Internet Safety: Change in Internet Filter
A team of library media specialists, instructional technology staff, and principals discussed Internet categories that are currently filtered. These categories include:  hacking, adult material, gambling, MP3 and audio download services, and violence.  Sites that are in the tasteless category are also blocked. In order to provide students with safe and educationally diverse access to the Internet, the district has taken a proactive stance by evaluating additional categories to filter or block. The following categories will now be blocked because they lack educational value and are not considered safe:  Militancy and Extremist, Racism and Hate, Society and Lifestyles:  Personals and Dating. Filtering these categories still permits students to research quality, academic information about content related to militancy, extremist groups, and racism if needed through juried, educational web sites.
