The Oshkosh Area School District and Oshkosh Early Learning program are celebrating young learners during the "Week of the Young Child" - April 8-12, 2019. The Week of the Young Child is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the world's largest early childhood education association. The purpose of the national celebration is to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families and to recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs.

Today, more than ever before, educators understand the importance of children's earliest years in shaping their learning and development. Yet, never before have the needs of young children and their families been more pressing. The Oshkosh Area School District, in collaboration with several local child care centers, private preschools, and Head Start, seeks to provide enhanced early learning opportunities for young children beginning at age four. The OASD's Ready 4 Learning program provides high-quality, free public preschool for all children who turn four on or before September 1 of the current school year. The District also provides special education services to children who qualify beginning at age three. To learn more visit www.oshkosh.k12.wi.us/elementary/oshkosh-early-learning

The Week of the Young Child is a time to recognize that children's opportunities are our responsibilities and to recommit ourselves to ensuring that each and every child experiences the type of early environment - at home, at child care, at school, and in the community - that will promote their early learning.

The entire Oshkosh community is encouraged to learn more about the importance of high-quality early learning, and the critical role early childhood educators play in a child’s development and learning. Throughout the week, Oshkosh Early Learning will be promoting daily activities to help children learn through enjoying music, exploring food and cooking, building together, creating art, and celebrating their families! Be sure to follow the Oshkosh Early Learning Facebook page and join in the fun!
