ARC Contracting donates $13,000 to cover reduced-price school meals

Oshkosh Area School District students who currently qualify for reduced-priced meals will eat for free thanks to the generosity of ARC Contracting. The company recently embarked on a fundraising campaign to ensure that no area students go through the school day hungry. The fundraiser took place during the ARC Gus Macker 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament in August 2018, with support from the Oshkosh Convention and Visitors Bureau and other local businesses. The fundraising campaign resulted in a $13,000 donation to the Oshkosh Area School District food service program. The funds will be used to cover the cost of reduced-priced meals for individual students beginning on November 1, 2018, and continuing until the fund balance is gone. At this time, an exact end date is unknown and is dependent upon the number of reduced-price meals provided each day in the Oshkosh Area School District.

“We are very passionate about this new initiative through the ARC Gus Macker,” stated Devon Hudak, Director of Communications for ARC Contracting. “There should never be a kid that goes to school and leaves hungry due to not being able to afford lunch. Every little bit counts and whatever we can assist with to keep this going, we are on board!”

Over 41% of students in the Oshkosh Area School District qualify for free and reduced-priced school meals this school year. However, many families still struggle to afford the reduced-priced, which is $0.30 for breakfast and $0.40 for lunch. Currently, 513 students receive reduced-price meals in the 2018-19 school year and will benefit from ARC Contracting's donation. The generosity of ARC Contracting, as well as the many community members that donated to the campaign, will help hundreds of families and students in need.

"We are so grateful for this incredible donation and the generosity of ARC Contracting and Oshkosh community members," stated Dr. Vickie Cartwright, Superintendent of Schools for the Oshkosh Area School District. "As a District, we are committed to meeting the needs of our students, and we know that children who eat well-balanced, nutritious meals do much better in school. We are proud of our community’s commitment to helping all students succeed."

Representatives from ARC Contracting, Oshkosh Convention and Visitors Bureau, and the Wisconsin Herd recently took time to serve lunch to students in the Oshkosh Area School District. On Tuesday, November 27, 2018, six representatives from the three organizations spent the lunch hour at Washington Elementary School - serving food, cleaning tables, and talking with students. The opportunity allowed the organizations to witness and experience the far-reaching impact of their donation and generosity. PHOTO GALLERY

The Oshkosh Area School District provides high-quality, nutritious, and affordable breakfasts and lunches every school day. Families may qualify for free or for reduced-price meals based on a variety of qualifications, including household income level. To receive this benefit, families must complete an application annually. Families in need are encouraged to complete the 2018-19 Household Application for Free and Reduced Price Meals to determine their eligibility. This process can be completed at any time, and an online application is available, as well as a paper copy in multiple languages.
