Facilities Planning: Smith Elementary School

The Oshkosh Area School District presented information related to the future of Smith Elementary School to the OASD Board of Education during a Board Workshop on May 22, 2019 (LEARN MORE). The Workshop included a comprehensive overview of the situation, an explanation of viable options, and a recommendation for the Board to consider. As previously announced, District leaders have provided a recommendation to the Board to close Smith Elementary School at the end of the 2018-19 school year, and transfer students to Jefferson Elementary. (NOTE: The option of transferring some or all students to Shapiro STEM Academy was also provided.) The Board will make a decision regarding the future of Smith Elementary School during the Special Board Meeting scheduled for Wednesday, June 5 at 6 p.m.

RESOURCES: The following resources are available to help school families and community members understand the situation and next steps. 

INFORMATION SESSIONS: The OASD will be hosting information sessions for the potentially impacted school communities and community members. During the information sessions, District leaders will provide a summary of the Board Workshop with the goal of creating a shared understanding of the situation with all stakeholders. OASD families and community members are invited to attend any session. 
  • Thursday, May 23 at 6 p.m. at Smith Elementary School
  • Tuesday, May 28 at 6 p.m. at Jefferson Elementary School 
  • Wednesday, May 29 at 6 p.m. at Shapiro STEM Academy
