Second-graders at Jefferson Elementary School in Oshkosh recently showed their appreciation for local businesses and welcomed some of their favorite businesses into their classroom.

The activity was part of the students’ recent Opinion Writing Unit with Mrs. Kern, a second-grade teacher at Jefferson Elementary School. Students selected their favorite local businesses and wrote them letters of appreciation. In the letters, the students shared why the businesses are their favorite and invited them to their classroom for a Best Business in Oshkosh Celebration. Leaders and employees from Five Below, HuHot Mongolian Grill, and Golden Corral visited the classroom to help the students learn more about their companies. Students were able to learn about what type of skills the businesses are looking for when they hire, what types of jobs they might be eligible for when they get older, and the education requirements for their industries.
