Jefferson Elementary School recently hosted a Celebrate Us! Family Night. The event brought over 100 students, families, and staff together for a night of celebrating the unique talents, diversity, and backgrounds of the entire school community.

The Jefferson Elementary School students and families were able to see and experience a variety of hands-on activities and demonstrations, and enjoy a delicious meal together. The meal featured a traditional family recipe for a dessert chosen from submitted recipes by Jefferson families and prepared by the OASD Food Service. During the event, families also received a passport to explore and take part in many unique experiences including performances by traditional Hmong dancers, African drumming, art displays, make-and-take activities, readers theater performances, family handprint keepsake activity, family photo booth, and much more. At the end of the evening, families were able to turn in their passports for a chance to win a movie night themed gift basket.

"The Celebrate Us! Family Night was an incredible opportunity for our school community to come together and celebrate and learn from one another," explained Rhonda Buchanan, Jefferson Elementary School Principal. "Our families and our staff members work hard each and every day and their contributions and impact in our school, as well as the entire Oshkosh community, is truly special."

In addition to celebrating the uniqueness of the Jefferson community, the school's family night aimed to strengthen the connection between school and home. Students, parents, and entire families were able to engage with staff members and learn more about the work and progress happening in classrooms each and every day at Jefferson.
