The Oshkosh Area School District (OASD), in partnership with local manufacturers, is inspiring more young people to explore manufacturing. On Thursday, October 4 the District will be participating in the nationwide celebration of Manufacturing Month - providing students with a unique opportunity to see what modern manufacturing looks like and learn about the opportunities available to them. Over 60 students enrolled in manufacturing classes at Oshkosh North and Oshkosh West will spend the day touring local manufacturing facilities and technical education centers and engaging with industry experts.

“Manufacturing Month is a great opportunity for our students to see what manufacturing looks like today and to start to understand what a career in manufacturing could do for them,” stated Nicole Peterson, OASD Career and Technical Education Coordinator. “Not only will our students get to learn about the industry and local careers, but they’ll also learn about the incredible educational opportunities, training, and supports available to them after they graduate high school.”

The Oshkosh Area School District has been hosting Manufacturing Month activities for over five years. This year, students will tour Oshkosh Corporation, and two Fox Valley Technical College locations - the S.J. Spanbauer Aviation and Industrial Center and the Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center.

Manufacturing Day and Month is an annual nationwide initiative where manufacturers open their doors to showcase the potential of modern manufacturing and foster interest in manufacturing careers. It is a chance for students to see the diverse career options that are innovative, impactful and durable - not to mention in high-demand in the Oshkosh area.

The Manufacturing Month tours are made possible through the District’s partnerships with the Oshkosh Chamber of Commerce, Oshkosh Corporation, and Fox Valley Technical College, as well as a sponsorship by the NEW Manufacturing Alliance. In addition to the tours, the District is also joining in the celebration of Manufacturing Month in October. Throughout the month, Oshkosh Area School District students will be participating in manufacturing-based activities, including career fairs, classroom lessons, tours, and career showcases.

The Oshkosh Area School District is committed to helping all students explore their career interests. The goal of the Oshkosh Area School District (OASD) is to ensure that all students are College, Career and Community Ready (CCCR).  Through CCCR’s three areas of focus: Career Exploration, Financial Literacy and Life and Career Skills, the OASD provides opportunities and experiences to students so that they can make informed decisions regarding their future after graduation.
