The first day of school in the OASD will be September 3, 2019. The start date occurs after September 1 as directed by law. The last day of school will be June 3, 2020, unless a sixth inclement weather day is needed. If it is needed, June 4, 2020, would become the last day of school.

The approved calendar adds 11 minutes to the start of the school day for high school students to allow for additional minutes to be absorbed through built-in inclement weather days. The calendar does not add minutes to the school day for elementary and middle school students. District leaders are continuing to evaluate transportation options to avoid potential changes that could impact morning busing times or costs for three elementary schools. Additional updates will be shared as they are available.

The decision to add 11 minutes to the high school day was made after careful evaluation of the needs of students and school communities. The minutes were added to the beginning of the day to reduce the amount of instructional time lost for students involved in afternoon and evening extra-curricular activities and those with work responsibilities. Additionally, the longer day for high school is in alignment with districts throughout the Fox Valley.

The decision to end the school year on June 3 was made after careful evaluation of previous feedback received from OASD families and staff members, as well as community organizations.

Additional highlights of the OASD 2019-2020 School Calendar includes the information listed below.
  • There are 177 student contact days for all students, which brings the OASD into similar alignment with districts throughout the Fox Valley.
  • There are 190 professional staff days.
  • There are nine early release dates to provide professional learning time for OASD staff.
  • There are 4.81 inclement weather/snow days built into the calendar.
  • A digital learning day option will be implemented for high school students during the ACT testing that occurs for students in grade eleven. This will provide the District with a total of 5.81 inclement weather/snow days built into the calendar.
  • OASD graduations will take place on Monday, June 1, 2020 for Oshkosh West and Wednesday, June 3, 2020 for Oshkosh North. The dates will avoid potential athletic conflicts. Additionally, the order of graduation will rotate each year, with Oshkosh North going first in 2021.

Calendar options were drafted and narrowed down by the District's calendar committee, which is comprised of elementary and secondary principals, teachers, and secretaries, as well as district leaders. Throughout the development process, the committee remained committed to creating a calendar that was in the best interest of the entire Oshkosh Area School District. The proposed option was presented to the Board of Education during a Board Workshop on April 10, 2019 and was approved by the Board of Education on April 24, 2019.
