A group of ambitious high school students in the Oshkosh Area School District are earning their diploma while gaining hands-on work experience. This year, 11 OASD students are participating in the inaugural Integrated School2Work program at Oshkosh Corporation. The program provides students with the opportunity to complete academic requirements in the morning and receive on-the-job training in the afternoon, five days a week. Students enrolled in the program will complete required coursework at the new Education Center housed at Oshkosh Corporation under the direction of a certified high school teacher and will spend the afternoon working at the Oshkosh Corporation facility. Students will start in an entry-level position and move through various jobs to gain more experience.

A unique educational model, the OASD's Integrated School2Work program is geared toward students that have an interest in hands-on learning, technical skills, and the desire to learn in a different environment. The program is made possible through the District's unique partnerships with Oshkosh Corporation, the Oshkosh Chamber of Commerce, and Fox Valley Technical College.

On Wednesday, August 15, a special Draft Day ceremony was held at Fox Valley Technical College - Riverside Campus to kick-off the inaugural program and recognize the participating students. During the ceremony, students signed a commitment to participate, officially entering the two-year program. Leaders from Oshkosh Corporation and the Oshkosh Area School District addressed the students and their families and discussed the importance of the program.

"The Oshkosh Area School District is committed to providing real-world, hands-on learning experiences to ensure that all students are college, career, and community ready," stated Dr. Vickie Cartwright, Superintendent of Schools. "This integrated school to work program demonstrates our commitment and showcases the unique opportunities available to our students. We are so proud of these 11 high school juniors who have decided to make the most of their educational experience, and we are excited to see them excel in the classroom, in their education, in the workplace, and in the community."
