The Oshkosh Area School District (OASD) is pleased to announce the selection of Aaron Herm, to serve as the new Oshkosh West High School Assistant Principal, effective July 20, 2018. Superintendent Dr. Vickie Cartwright recommended Herm, and the Oshkosh School Board unanimously approved his appointment during the July 18, 2018, OASD Board of Education meeting.

Herm has nine years of educational experience, most recently serving as a special education teacher at Oshkosh West High School. Herm previously served as a high school special education teacher in the school districts of West De Pere and Menasha, as well as a social studies teacher at Beloit Memorial High School. Herm graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Madison with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. He obtained a teaching certification from Concordia University and received a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from Marian University.

In making this recommendation, the interview team, comprised of district and school administrators, staff members, and parents, valued Herm’s experience in leading alternative education programs and his commitment to restorative practices. As an educator, Herm has had proven success in working with at-risk students - those less likely to graduate - including working within the Empower Academy at Oshkosh West High School. He is known for having high expectations for all students and using project-based learning and innovative teaching strategies to reach students of all abilities. Herm’s commitment to forming positive relationships with students, parents, and staff members will position him well in serving the Oshkosh West community.

The Oshkosh West Administrative Team includes one principal, two assistant principals, one dean of students, and one activities director. The school is committed to creating a culture for learning that engages the entire West community so that all students graduate college, career, and community ready. West students have the opportunity to participate in Division 1 athletics, fine arts programs, STEM programs, and over 60 different co-curricular activities. Other highlights of Oshkosh West High School include its highly dedicated staff, exceptional Pupil Services Department, the Academy for Global Studies, and the Empower Academy.
