Oshkosh North Student Receives Herb Kohl Initiative Scholarship

Image result for herb kohl scholarship student winnersThe Oshkosh Area School District is proud to recognize Nydia Griffin, Oshkosh North High School Senior, as a 2019 Herb Kohl Initiative Scholarship recipient. 

Student Initiative Scholarship recipients, are chosen by their schools and have overcome significant personal obstacles or adversity, have demonstrated exceptional initiative in the classroom, and have shown strong promise for succeeding in college and beyond. Nydia Griffin enjoys English and recently excelled in a sports literature course. In addition to her academic success, she is involved in numerous extra-curricular activities including tennis, basketball, and track and field, and participated in the Oshkosh Youth Leadership program. Griffin is also a member of the Oshkosh North Link Crew, a transition program that helps to welcome freshmen students and ensure a great start to their high school experience. After graduating from Oshkosh North, Griffin hopes to continue her athletic career at the collegiate level and explore her academic interests. 

“Nydia is an extremely driven and hardworking young adult,” said Jacquelyn Kiffmeyer, Oshkosh North High School Principal. “Her impact in our school community is far-reaching and we are excited to see her continue to succeed.”

Griffin will receive a $10,000 award and will be honored at a regional luncheon along with other Herb Kohl scholarship and award recipients this spring. The Kohl Foundation Scholarship and Fellowship program was established by Herb Kohl, philanthropist and businessman, in 1990. To date, the foundation has awarded $17.8 million to Wisconsin educators, principals, students, and schools. “Education is the key to the future of Wisconsin and our nation. I am very proud of the accomplishments of these students, teachers, and principals and look forward to the great contributions they will make in the future,” Kohl said.
