More than WHAT, We teach WHY.  Brain based instruction at Jacob Shapiro  is intentionally and systematically teaching thinking skills such as comparing, classifying, gathering complete data, recognizing relevant and irrelevant information, using cues, developing a strategy and shifting strategies when one isn't working.  Our students are learning to understand and regulate their own thinking so they can solve as yet unknown problems in the future.  From neuroscience principles we established our overall goal and framework elements that include:

Increase the brain’s capacity to learn more  information

Change the emotional state of learners

2. Enriched Environments:

Encourages optimal learning conditions in the school, at home and in the community

3. Cognitive Enhancement (Deficit Correction )

Teachers at Shapiro are bulding the foundation for critical thinkers who can use thinking skills such as:  precise language, planning strategies, logical reasoning, accurate labeling and error analysis

4. Ongoing Evaluation:

Measures student achievement and the growth and understanding of brain based instruction
