Each OASD Board of Education Board Meeting starts with roll call and the Pledge of Allegiance.
Listening Sessions and Public Forums
The board provides opportunities for the public to voice their concerns/opinions/ideas during a non-televised listening session, held prior to the first meeting of the month (usually from 5 - 5:50 p.m.) where time is split out per attendee to allow for all to speak during the 50-minute time frame. The public can otherwise attend either meeting of the month and speak during a televised public forum where speakers address non-agenda related topics first and then agenda-related items. Presenters are asked to limit comments to three minutes.
Superintendent's Report
The superintendent of schools provides a brief report on current issues affecting education and a good news report about news happening in the schools. Board members provide updates on committee work if they had a recent meeting.
Workshops
The first meeting of the month is an informational workshop meeting. The workshop session allows administration to give reports on current issues, updates on initiatives, budget work, and new proposals to the board. The purpose of the workshop is to generate discussion and provide feedback.
Resolutions
The second meeting of the month is an action meeting, where resolutions are provided for the board to act upon. Resolutions are typically not included in the first meeting of the month unless there are time sensitive items that require board action before the second meeting of the month.
Future Agenda Items
The meeting agenda allows for the board to make a request for future agenda items and provide any announcements for the public.
Adjourn and/or Executive Session
The board will either adjourn the meeting then or adjourn to executive closed session which allows the board to privately discuss personnel matters, bargain strategies, and confer with legal counsel, etc., as provided for by statute.
