CKLA Spotlight: A New Chapter in Literacy Learning

The Oshkosh Area School District is taking bold steps to transform literacy instruction, and our first CKLA (Core Knowledge Language Arts) Spotlight video provides an exciting glimpse into this critical journey. As we field test Amplify CKLA this school year, we're laying the groundwork for a comprehensive approach to reading instruction that promises to unlock student potential.

A Closer Look at CKLA

Amplify CKLA represents a significant shift in how we approach reading instruction. Unlike traditional methods, this curriculum emphasizes a knowledge-building, science-based approach to teaching reading. It's not just about decoding words, but about creating a rich, engaging learning environment that connects reading with deep comprehension and critical thinking.

Our Field Test Journey

During the 2024-2025 school year, we're field testing CKLA across all grade levels and elementary schools. Specifically, at least two grade levels at each OASD elementary school are engaged in this process. This strategic field test allows us to:

  • Evaluate the curriculum's effectiveness
  • Gather insights from teachers and students
  • Make an informed decision about our district-wide literacy approach

Teacher Perspectives

Our educators are at the heart of this initiative. As you'll see in our first video spotlight, teachers are experiencing firsthand the transformative potential of CKLA. Their enthusiasm and early observations are promising.

A Commitment to Excellence

This is more than a curriculum change—it's a district-wide commitment to excellence in literacy. Our Literacy Committee has carefully researched and supported CKLA, driven by a singular goal: to provide every student with the foundational reading skills they need to succeed.

Join Our Journey

We invite our community - parents, educators, and community members - to follow along as we explore this exciting new approach to literacy education. Stay tuned for more video spotlights that will provide deeper insights into CKLA and its impact on our students' learning.

Literacy is not just an academic goal - it's a pathway to opportunity. Together, we're building a stronger future, one reader at a time.
