Free summer meals are officially underway in the Oshkosh Area School District (OASD). The district has launched its annual Summer Meals Program to ensure children have reliable food access while school is out. Free breakfast and lunch are now being served, with multiple school sites opening across Oshkosh to accommodate families throughout the summer. The program is free and open to all children aged 18 and under.

The program is designed for maximum community access, meaning there is no need for families to sign up or register in advance. Children do not need to be current OASD students to receive a free meal, and all children, families, and caregivers are welcome to attend together. Because of federal program guidelines, all meals must be eaten on-site at the school.

While meals are free for children, adults may purchase breakfast $2.75 and lunch for $3.75. Program dates and times vary by school site:

• Jefferson Elementary, Menominee Elementary, Perry Tipler Middle, Oaklawn Elementary, and Vel Phillips Middle Schools
  • Dates: June 15 - July 9 (Monday through Thursday)
  • Times: Breakfast 7:45 – 8:15 a.m. and Lunch 11:15 a.m. – 12 p.m.
• Oshkosh West High School
  • Dates: June 8 – July 17 (Monday through Friday; closed July 3) 
  • Times: Breakfast 7 - 9:30 a.m. and Lunch 11:15 AM - 1 p.m. (expanded hours)

The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and administered by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. It aims to provide nutritious meals during the summer months when free and reduced-price school meals are typically unavailable. Meals are provided to eligible children regardless of race, color, national origin, age, gender, or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of meal service.

*Free meals will be available for children 18 years of age and under, and persons over 18 years of age who are determined by a state or local public educational agency to be mentally or physically disabled and who also participate in a public or private non-profit school program during the regular school year.
