Honoring the History of Shapiro STEM Academy

Community invited to walk down memory lane at Shapiro Farewell Tours on May 6 and May 9

The public is invited to take a walk down memory lane during farewell tours of Oshkosh’s Shapiro STEM Academy before the school closes at the end of the 2025-26 school year.

Two tour dates will be available for community members, alumni, families, and staff to visit the school, located at 1050 W 18th Ave, Oshkosh, WI 54902:

  • Wednesday, May 6, 2026: 5 – 7 PM
  • Saturday, May 9, 2026: 10 AM – 12 PM

This school family update was shared with Shapiro families. Details are also available in this Shaprio Farewell Tours flyer.

Visitors are welcome to take a self-guided tour of the school during the designated times. No advance registration is required and people are welcome to arrive anytime in the two-hour window. These tours are being hosted while school is still in session so that visitors can experience the building as they remember it. Once the school year ends, the district will begin moving items out of the building in preparation for next school year and the next phase of the project.

“We know that our community has many fond memories of this building, and we want to provide the opportunity to say goodbye,” said Dr. Bryan Davis, OASD Superintendent of Schools. “Students, alumni, parents, and staff have all been part of the Shapiro story, and we hope they enjoy this chance to celebrate the school's history and connect with one another before its final school year comes to a close.”

The Shapiro building is scheduled to be demolished in December 2026 to allow construction to begin on the district's new westside middle school, a project made possible by the capital referendum passed by district voters in April 2025. The new middle school is set to open for the 2028-2029 school year and will welcome students from South Park Middle School and Perry Tipler Middle School.

Future Plans and Transitions

  • Student Transitions: For the 2026-2027 school year, students living within the current Shapiro attendance area will transfer to Roosevelt Elementary School.
  • Long-Term Consolidation and Boundary Changes: Following the 2026-2027 school year, the consolidated Roosevelt Elementary School will close*. District boundaries will be updated, and students will be assigned to nearby schools - including Carl Traeger Elementary, Oakwood Elementary, and Franklin Elementary - where expansions and renovations will then be complete.
    • *The Roosevelt Elementary building will house OASD 4K classrooms beginning in 2027-2028 until the new Pre-Kindergarten Center opens at Perry Tipler Middle School in fall 2029.

The entire community is encouraged to attend these tours to honor the legacy of Shapiro STEM Academy and celebrate the generations of learning that took place within its walls.
