OASD School Board Tours Vel Phillips Middle School Construction Site

Vel Phillips Middle School will open this fall for the 2023-2024 school year!

Oshkosh Area School District (OASD) Board of Education members - along with Superintendent Bryan Davis and members of the construction project team - recently toured Vel Phillips Middle School to see the construction progress first-hand. The new middle school is set to open this fall for the 2023-2024 school year. Construction is at full speed: masonry walls, stud walls, roofing, ductwork/piping, electrical infrastructure is in place, and drywall is being hung. The last exterior walls to be completed are on the third floor of the academic tower, the music wing, and the connecting corridor between the main office and the gym/music wing.

Additionally, monthly project progress reports are published with the goal of creating a shared understanding of the District's ongoing facilities work, made possible through the voter-approved 2020 Captial Referendum. The reports include the latest updates on Vel Phillips Middle School (opening fall 2023), the New Elementary School (opening fall 2024), and the School Secure Entrance Projects (ongoing).

The January 2023 OASD Facilities Project Progress Report is now available.

The OASD is so grateful for the community’s commitment to supporting our students and schools. The District looks forward to continuing to engage the community in this exciting process, including providing opportunities to tour the facility as it nears completion.

The Vel Phillips Middle School project was made possible through our voter supported 2020 Capital Referendum. Located adjacent to the current Merrill school site (on the corner of Kentucky Street and Nevada Avenue), the District broke ground on the Vel Phillips project in April 2022. Vel Phillips Middle School will open this fall for the 2023-24 school year, welcoming students currently enrolled at Merrill and Webster Stanley middle schools. A new elementary school will be built on the current Webster Stanley site once Vel Phillips Middle School is completed.
