OASD to Host Second Annual MLK Day Celebration

Community invited to join together on Monday, January 19

The Oshkosh Area School District (OASD) will host its Second Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration on Monday, January 19, 2026, bringing the community together to reflect on Dr. King's enduring call for justice and peace. The event will take place from 8 AM to 10:45 AM at Vel Phillips Middle School.

This year's celebration is guided by Dr. King's powerful quote: “True peace is not merely the absence of tension; it is the presence of justice.”

  • 8-  9 AM: Complimentary continental breakfast and community networking.
  • 9 - 10:45 AM: Program begins

The program highlights will include:

  • Recognition of the Oshkosh Civility Project’s Torchbearer Honorees.
  • Presentation of the district's MLK Essay Contest Winners.
  • Inspirational musical performances by OASD student choirs.
  • Keynote address

"Our first MLK Day celebration was inspiring, and we are excited to expand on that foundation this year," said Anthony Miller Jr., OASD Director of Community Engagement and Equity. "This event is a vital opportunity for our students, staff, and the wider community to gather, reflect on Dr. King’s profound legacy, and commit to the ongoing work of creating a more just and equitable society here in Oshkosh."

The event is free and open to the public, though registration is required by January 12. Attendees can RSVP through the online form: https://forms.gle/QsoXwzVKnqD6Yaf58.
