Serving Up Free Summer Meals for Children
Children can simply stop in during meal times to receive a free, nutritious breakfast and lunch
The Oshkosh Area School District (OASD) is excited to announce the return of its annual Summer Meals Program, ensuring that children across the community have access to nutritious food even when school is out. Beginning in early June and running through mid-July, the program offers free breakfast and lunch to all children 18 years and under* at multiple convenient locations throughout Oshkosh.
Understanding that summer can create a nutrition gap for many families, the OASD's Summer Meals Program steps in to provide essential, federally-compliant meals. "Helping parents meet the nutritional needs of their children is the strength of this program," said Michele Stahmann, OASD Director of Food Services. "There is no registration required and no income requirements. Children can simply stop in during meal times to receive a free, nutritious breakfast and lunch."

The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and administered by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. It aims to provide nutritious meals during the summer months when free and reduced-price school meals are typically unavailable. Meals are provided to eligible children regardless of race, color, national origin, age, gender, or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of meal service.
*Free meals will be available for children 18 years of age and under, and persons over 18 years of age who are determined by a state or local public educational agency to be mentally or physically disabled and who also participate in a public or private non-profit school program during the regular school year.
