Traeger Middle Tech Ed Students Create Charcuterie Boards
Members of the community can purchase the boards in-person only at Wagner Market or Becket’s while supplies last.
Students at Carl Traeger Middle School are mastering advanced manufacturing and engineering skills firsthand. This semester, eighth-grade students in the Manufacturing and Engineering Concepts class took raw materials and transformed them into high-quality, custom, Wisconsin-shaped charcuterie boards.
Throughout the project, students learned the ins and outs of blueprints, measurement, material fabrication, and shop safety. They even integrated advanced technology into the production line, utilizing Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and automated CNC machinery to precision-cut the custom Wisconsin design.
To help bring the project to market, the school district connected the middle school creators with Oshkosh North High School Marketing Essentials students. The high schoolers put their skills to work by designing the official digital promotional graphic used to market the boards online.
"This project is a great example of the Career-Based Learning Experiences (CBLEs) our district aims to provide within our Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs," said Melanie Wroblewski, Oshkosh Area School District Career and Technical Education and Academic Career Planning Coordinator. "By linking the manufacturing skills at Carl Traeger with the digital marketing skills at Oshkosh North, we are showing students how different industries work together to bring a project to life."
To cross the finish line, the district partnered with local businesses Wagner Market and Becket’s, who have stepped up to exclusively host and sell the student-made boards on their shelves.
The custom boards are available for $30 each, with 100% of the proceeds going directly back into the Carl Traeger Middle School Tech and Engineering Department. As part of their classroom learning, students produced a limited run of 40 boards.
By putting the student-made products on retail shelves, Wagner Market and Becket’s are giving these young creators a firsthand look at how technical skills connect directly to the local economy and community support.
