UPDATE: West Incident Follow-up - OASD School Canceled for 12.04.19

This message is a follow-up to previous communication related to today’s incident at Oshkosh West High School. The situation has been resolved and West students have been and are continuing to be safely released via the District’s reunification process located at Perry Tipler Middle School. All other OASD schools have resumed normal operations for the remainder of the day. Additional information will continue to be shared on all OASD communication channels.

Following today’s emergency situation at Oshkosh West High School, school has been canceled for Wednesday, December 4, 2019, throughout the Oshkosh Area School District. Counseling services will be available on Wednesday and in the coming days. We will continue to communicate information to our families and ask that all District families check their IC parent portal accounts for additional information. This information will also be available on the District website and Facebook page.

As previously communicated, there was an officer-involved shooting at Oshkosh West High School this morning, December 3, 2019. The District’s emergency response plan was activated and the situation was turned over to the State Department of Criminal Investigation. A student armed with a weapon confronted a school resource officer at West. The student and officer were both injured and transported to local hospitals. Only one student was injured.

Our students' safety is our number one priority. We are committed to providing a school environment where students can feel safe in mind and body. Today’s tragic event shows that trained school resource officers can help save lives. We are grateful for our partnership with our local law enforcement agencies, as well as our trained staff and proactive approach to emergency response within our District.

Thank you for your continued support and understanding.
