Daily Expectations
- Oshkosh eAcademy follows the OASD Academic School-Year Calendar with the exception of professional development Fridays to enable student course completion. The expectation will be to follow the instructor’s course due dates.
- Online learning at the middle and high school levels is designed for those who desire more flexibility, more of a challenge, or who excel outside of a physical classroom.
- Students in grades 9-12 are expected to spend a minimum of 6 hours a day on school work. Similar to a traditional school schedule, students will be expected to work approximately one hour per course each day. This time estimate is a combination of reading online modules, taking notes, typing documents, joining discussion threads, and connecting with their instructor(s).
- Students will log into their scheduled number of classes daily and complete the assignments due that day. Students may work ahead of schedule with teacher permission. NOTE: OASD policy requires full-time students in grades 9-11 to have six courses. If on track to graduate, grade 12 students are allowed to have five courses.
- The majority of online instruction is delivered using a flexible asynchronous format. Teachers provide personalized instruction and 1:1 support in the online classroom using email, text, and zoom meetings. Teachers host open virtual office hours where students can get extra help and personal attention as/if needed.
- Students will be required to check in with their teacher during school hours.
- As a high school parent, you are an integral part of your child's education, especially when choosing a fully virtual program option. Parents are expected to monitor their student’s progress and maintain communication with their student’s instructor or learning coach.
- Course content will be delivered through Buzz and Canvas learning management systems. Parents will be given access to track daily course progress and grades in both systems. Infinite Campus will still be used to view progress reports and final semester grades.
- School counselors will help schedule classes based on grade level requirements or graduation requirements based on availability of courses.
- Students will be expected to complete an online orientation prior to beginning a course.
- Online students may participate in extracurricular activities at their OASD home school.
Sample Daily Schedule
- 7:30 - 8 a.m. - Breakfast: Wake up, prepare work space/environment
- 8:30 - 11:30 a.m. - Log into morning classes (Hours 1-3): Students check for announcements from teachers, and begin working through the modules assigned for that day/week with the use of the pacing guide and teachers’ directions

Teachers
- At the high school level, the OASD’s eAcademy is taught by dedicated, certified OASD teachers who are available throughout the week as needed. Teachers are available during posted online office hours to provide assistance, guidance and feedback.
- Middle school and high school students will have multiple teachers. Students are assigned a grade-level/subject-certified OASD teacher who will teach their core subjects. Additional high school electives may be taught by a state-certified teacher.
Student Support Services
Student / Pupil Services
Student Services (also known as Pupil Services) supports the district’s instructional programs to help students attain their educational and career goals. Student Services staff work closely with students, staff, and parents to identify individual needs and provide supports that are most appropriate to meet those needs. These include psychological, nursing, counseling, social work, and section 504 services. These services will be available through your student's home school. For questions about Student Services/Pupil Services, contact: Matthew Kaemmerer, Director of Pupil Services 920.424.0113
Students with IEPs
Parental support is essential for students with IEPs who are not working at grade level academically. Please consult with your child’s special education teacher and/or refer to your child's most recent IEP and Present Level of Performance.
Your child’s special education teacher will consult with eAcademy staff to ensure the accommodations available with the eAcademy curriculum are accessible. Specially designed instruction documented in the IEP may be adjusted to best meet the needs of your student in this learning platform. For example, the amount of time of direct specialized instruction may be adjusted due to the demands of the virtual environment. If students have related services in their IEP (i.e. speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, and or physical therapy) teletherapy will be provided.

Curriculum
- eAcademy uses a curriculum that is both interactive and rigorous while aligned to Common Core State Standards and designed for virtual instruction. This is different from the OASD’s adopted district core curriculums that are aligned to Common Core State Standards and designed for classroom instruction.
- The eAcademy curriculum will be delivered to the student at their current grade level (Math, English, Science, and Social Studies). For example, a student in 9th grade will receive 9th Grade English. To achieve success, students are expected to submit multiple assignments in each course weekly. Students can learn at their own pace; however, “own pace” still means that students must make progress in the course every week.
- To measure learning, students will independently complete self-checks, practice lessons, multiple choice questions, written assignments, projects, discussion-based assessments, quizzes, and final exams.

Parent / Caregiver Responsibilities
Important Factors to Consider
Parent/Caregiver Responsibilities
eAcademy is 100% virtual. In this way the eAcademy program provides consistency in learning - all learning takes place online.
- Parents/caregivers will need to be actively present to help assist students, but those students in younger grade levels will require more parent/caregiver engagement with instruction throughout the day. Before choosing eAcademy, families must consider the following:
- Do we have adult availability to assist our student with learning?
- Are we capable of providing our student with assistance with text-based content delivery?
- Can we manage the number of household members requiring academic support throughout the day?
- Will we be able to set and stick to a schedule that prioritizes completing coursework in a timely manner?
- Are we (adults and students) comfortable with technology and learning new technology, including the use of email, uploading images, sending attachments, use of digital folders, willing to learn a new learning platform with built-in navigation tools, etc?
- Are we willing and capable of persevering through a rigorous curriculum that has a large volume of content and assignments to be completed each week?
- The OASD will provide a device for each student.
Families are responsible for obtaining the basic supplies needed for traditional middle-school and high school core subjects.
Courses may require students to purchase materials or pick up materials from their home school.
Grades 6-12 Frequently Asked Questions
- Do students learn entirely online on their own?
- Who helps students select their classes?
- Who provides supplies?
- Do students have to follow due dates or deadlines?
- Will my student still receive social/emotional services?
- Can students take advanced classes while enrolled in eAcademy?
- Does being in eAcademy impact my student's ability to play athletics in college?
Do students learn entirely online on their own?
Students should plan to work independently online daily for one hour per course, depending on the content and due dates. Students can choose to complete the work outside of traditional school hours. Is eAcademy instruction recorded or provided in real-time?
The majority of the curriculum is text-based instruction, which can be accessed via the learning platform BUZZ. Live lessons are provided weekly and are recorded for the student to access. In addition to live lessons, real-time learning will be implemented through the use of Google Meets, but will not be the main method of instruction. Live lessons are in addition to the 4-5 hours a day of coursework.
What happens after I complete an application?
Your application is reviewed by OASD eAcademy staff and OASD district administrators. Students are then removed from their home school and placed in eAcademy. Once an application is completed and submitted, a student has applied for eAcademy consideration; a staff member will reach out to confirm enrollment. You will be contacted in mid- August with your student’s eAcademy teacher or class schedule. An in-person orientation and material distribution will take place in August before the start of the school year begins on September 1, 2022.
What supplies are provided to families?
Will attendance be taken?
