If you are new to the Parent Portal and want to sign up, please see Shanda McLimans, shanda.mclimans@oshkosh.k12.wi.us, for an activation code. You will be required to show proof of identity. Only a parent or legal guardian is able to sign up for the Parent Portal. If you are already signed up and forgot your login or password, go to the Oshkosh Area School District website and on the main screen click on the Infinite Campus box. Click to sign onto the OASD Parent Portal.

Enrollment/Emergency Card & Health Information Enrollment Questionnaire and return to: Shanda McLimans, 1100 W Smith Ave, Oshkosh, WI 54901 or email to shanda.mclimans@oshkosh.k12.wi.us and please put “Summer School” in the Subject line. Once your child has been enrolled, you will receive an email with an activation code for the Parent Portal. You will then need to sign in and create an account in the Parent Portal. Once these steps have been completed, you will be able to register your child for summer school through Infinite Campus Parent Portal after 8:00 a.m. on March 2 until the March 20 deadline. Using the Infinite Campus Parent Portal
Students must attend every session of summer school when a class meets for credit from 8:00 AM until 12:30 PM. DPI (Department of Public Instruction) rules state that students must attend classes for so many hours in order to get credit. This is in addition to earning a passing grade for a class during summer school. If you have any plans or need to have your high school student miss summer school for any reason while it is in session, it may be best not to sign them up.

From the portal Sign In screen, https://oshkoshwi.infinitecampus.org/campus/portal/oshkosh.jsp enter the Username and Password that has been assigned.
Summer School Courses can be requested through either the Parent or the Student Portal
Click the Log In button. This will bring the user to the main portal page where district and school notices will be listed.
Click on "more" on the left side of the toolbar. Select Course Registration.
On the right hand side, click on the appropriate child from the dropdown.
Select the Appropriate calendar for your child.
Click the plus button on course.
Click the Request Button.
Once the progress bar is at 100% you can request alternates.
**Note If you do not with to take the max amount of courses it will not show 100% complete, this is normal**

Locations: Jefferson Elementary, Oaklawn Elementary, Carl Traeger Elementary/Middle
Dates: June 15 - July 9, Monday through Thursday
Times: 8:30 - 10 a.m. and 10 - 11:30 a.m.
Elementary Students can select two courses and a bus. The exception will be Getting Ready for Kindergarten and Getting Ready for First Grade course selections where one course and a bus can be selected. Additional Courses Selected will be added to Course Request List as Alternates.It is highly recommended to choose at least one alternate class, Some classes do not run due to low enrollment

Exploring the Great Artdoors! | This course is designed as an introductory art course that will provide experiences in clay, digital photography, drawing and painting. We will be exploring a variety of natural plant and animal subjects found in the great outdoors. In three weeks we will become familiar with a variety of artists as well as explore wheel throwing, hand building, burnishing and raku firing, fast and slow shutter speed and digital macro photography, contour drawing, ink and gesture drawing. Summer Shakespeare | Students will delve deeply into the works and themes of William Shakespeare through a unique, performance-based approach. Each summer session will focus on a specific theme or contextual argument driven by the play being performed by American Players Theatre in Spring Green, WI (which students would attend at the end of the course as a culminating experience). This summer's session, for example, will focus on a feminist examination of the treatment of gender in the Early Modern period through a treatment of As You Like It, choice sonnets, historical background research, and excerpts from similar plays by Shakespeare and/or his contemporaries. Students will analyze Shakespearean text and apply thematic arguments both to the time period of publication as well as our contemporary period. Students will immerse themselves into Shakespearean drama through a performance-based approach requiring them to translate, embody, deliver, and appreciate the text. Students will demonstrate mastery of both informational and literary sources through summative assessments including a culminating exam and/or an analytic paper. Students will gain a deeper appreciation and understanding of the power of theatre through a visit to American Players Theatre at the end of the course to enjoy a professional performance of our primary play of focus. This course counts as an English elective, it does not meet the English graduation requirements. Transition Course held at the Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh (BGCO) | Transitioning from Middle School to High School is an important time in a teens life. From learning the layout of a new school to maneuvering friendships to learning to manage time and activities, teens have to learn so much in that first week of high school. In collaboration with OASD, the Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh will offer a 6 week course (Monday-Thursday) at the Club on transitioning from Middle School to High School. Areas to cover would be Study Skills, Note Taking, Time Management, Stress Management, Friendships and Relationships, Conflict Resolution, School and Community Activities, Career Planning, Jobs, and much more. POWER MECHANICS | Power Mechanics is designed for students who want to learn the fundamentals of a small internal combustion engine. The theory and construction of two- and four-cycle engines through the process of disassembling and reassembling engines are major focuses of study. SAE Supervised Agricultural Experience | This course is designed to reflect one of the three essential components of an agricultural education program. This specialized course is designed for those students aspiring to further develop their Supervised Agricultural Experience. The emphasis of this course is on hands-on learning and applying lessons to meet the needs of all students. Students in this course will work directly with the Agriscience Department. This summer independent study course includes putting together activity-based lessons relating to the SAEs of the enrolled students. Some of the areas that lessons will focus around will be: Dairy Production, Beef Production, Poultry Production, Sheep Production, Horticultural Science, Food Science / Agricultural Processing, Agricultural Education, Agriscience Applications, Agribusiness, Landscape Management, Crop Science, and many any other agricultural applications students wish to pursue. Students in this course are encouraged to be FFA members, as they will have experiences available to them during the summer months that will enhance their SAE programs. Confirm you will have daily access to a computer outside of school. Students will be able to keep their Chromebook during summer school. Please be prepared to start on June 08 and work online daily. Final exam will be proctored at North High School on July 16; however, arrangements for earlier final exams to accommodate family vacations may be scheduled in advance. (NOTE: All advanced PE students will be required to attend pre-fitness testing on June 08 at 8:00 AM at the summer school site, Oshkosh North High School. Final fitness testing will take place on July 16 at 8:00 AM.) An online account will be created for you after you receive confirmation of your enrollment in the summer school course. Your online account will provide access to your selected online course. An email containing account/login information will be sent to your school email. An online account will be created for your parent/guardian. Parents/Guardians will have access to your course progress and are encouraged to use their account to communicate with instructors.

CREATIVE WRITING 2 | For many hundreds of years, literature has been one of the most important human art forms. It allows us to give voice to our emotions, create imaginary worlds, express ideas, and escape the confines of material reality. Through creative writing, we can come to understand ourselves and our world a little bit better. This course provides students with a solid grounding in the writing process, from finding inspiration to building a basic story to using complicated literary techniques and creating strange hybrid forms of poetic prose and prose poetry. By the end of this course, students will learn how to discover their creative thoughts and turn those ideas into fully realized pieces of creative writing. ADVANCED PE (Previously Personal Fitness) | Personal PE -Advanced PE (Previously Personal Fitness): This two-semester course guides students through an in-depth examination of the effects of exercise on the body. Students learn how to exercise efficiently and properly. Basic anatomy, bio-mechanics, and physiology will serve as a foundation for students to build effective exercise programs. The study of nutrition and human behavior is also an integral part of the course. Students conduct fitness assessments and participate in weekly physical activity. U.S. HISTORY | U. S. History In this eAcademy course, the emphasis is on the present as it was shaped by the past. It focuses on how change took place socially, economically, politically and how democratic traditions impacted these changes. Prerequisite: None Grade: 10 |
CRIMINOLOGY | Criminology In today's society, crime and deviant behavior are often one of the top concerns of society members. From the nightly news to personal experiences with victimization, crime seems to be all around us. In this course, we will explore the field of criminology or the study of crime. In doing so, we will look at possible explanations for crime from psychological, biological, and sociological standpoints, explore the various types of crime and their consequences for society, and investigate how crime and criminals are handled by the criminal justice system. Why do some individuals commit crimes but others don't? What aspects in our culture and society promote crime and deviance? Why do individuals receive different punishments for the same crime? GOTHIC LITERATURE | Gothic Literature: From vampires to ghosts, these frightening stories have influenced fiction writers since the 18th century. This course will focus on the major themes found in Gothic literature and demonstrate how the core writing drivers produce, for the reader, a thrilling psychological environment. Terror versus horror, the influence of the supernatural, and descriptions of the difference between good and evil are just a few of the themes presented. By the time students have completed this course, they will have gained an understanding of and an appreciation for the complex nature of dark fiction. Prerequisite: None Grade: 12 |
FORENSIC SCIENCE | Forensic Science Fingerprints. Blood spatter. DNA analysis. The world of law enforcement is increasingly making use of the techniques and knowledge from the sciences to better understand the crimes that are committed and to catch those individuals responsible for the crimes. Forensic science applies scientific knowledge to the criminal justice system. This course focuses on some of the techniques and practices used by forensic scientists during a crime scene investigation (CSI). Starting with how clues and data are recorded and preserved, the student will follow evidence trails until the CSI goes to trial, examining how various elements of the crime scene are analyzed and processed. Classroom Driver Education
Age: Students must be born on or before August 31, 2005.

Behind the Wheel
Age: Students must be at least 15 ½ years old for the on-street driving lessons in Behind the Wheel. Sign up with Mr. Morrison after Spring Break at either high school. 4th Quarter and Summer Classroom students will be able to sign up during class. Students will be given a calendar at that time. Behind the Wheel consists of Simulation and On Street driving lessons, usually on alternate days.

The High School C.A.T.S. - Course is for any student living in the Oshkosh School District and entering into 9th – 12th grade for the 2020-2021 school year. Middle and High School C.A.T.S. will teach safe training techniques students can utilize to become more fit and improve their physical abilities in strength, agility, and speed. The class will meet five days per week (Mon-Fri) for 90 minutes. |
SPARTAN STRENGTH |
The High School Spartan Strength - SESSION 1 course is for any student living in the Oshkosh School District and entering into 9th-12th grade for the 2020-2021 school year. This is a strength and conditioning course that has been designed for high school students by Certified Strength and Conditioning teachers/coaches. The class will put emphasis on proper weightlifting techniques, safety when it comes to working out with exercise equipment, healthy lifestyle choices, and speed and agility drills. Students completing this course will be in excellent shape/condition and will maximize their physical potential. The class will meet four days per week (Mon-Thur.) for 120 minutes.

ADAPTED SPORT LEAGUE |
The Adapted Sports League Summer Camp will develop physical fitness skills throughout 3 different sports such as indoor soccer, indoor floor hockey, and indoor wiffle ball. It is a requirement that the student has a disability recognized by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) to participate within the camp; students grades 9-12 who are unable to successfully compete with their non-disabled peers. There will be two certified adapted physical education teachers and two support staff members to ensure the student will remain in a safe and successful environment. Prior to working with athletes, all staff members will be CPR, AED, and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) certified per district requirements. This camp is a lead up to our Adapted Sports League that will take place in the Fall as a school-sponsored extracurricular sports program and athletes will need to complete all three seasons to receive a varsity letter, per league requirements. Each sport will be roughly 6 weeks in Fall - soccer, Winter - floor hockey, and Spring - wiffle ball. |

Marching Band.This course is open to all Oshkosh band or twirl team members who attend Oshkosh Area School District High Schools in the 2020-2021 school year. This class focuses on the preparation of music to perform during the football season and development of marching technique. This year's theme is Heroes & Villains.

SUMMER JAZZ BAND |
Jazz Ensemble students study and perform music of the jazz idiom,
including improvisation, jazz rock, blues, swing, Latin, etc. This course will serve as an introduction to the rich history of jazz music. Through ensemble rehearsal, individual practice, small group sectionals, and performance opportunities, the students will gain an understanding and appreciation for this great art form. Emphasis will be placed on not just performance technique, but also rudimentary improvisational skills, musicianship, and the history and culture of this uniquely American art form. This ensemble is a skilled effort in which each student is expected to show technical and musical growth throughout this course. Dates: June 8-19

At Choir Camp you will work on music, learn choreography and lines as part of a musical review which will be performed on Friday.

Bus Information- Summer School 2020
If you want your Student to be bussed from one of the pickup and drop off locations located on the course page for each school, you must sign up for busing during the online registration process. Busing services fill up quickly. Busing is only available for students in grades 4k-5.
For students who ride the bus (current grades 4K-5):
- They will arrive at the summer school site in time to eat breakfast. (Note: breakfast is not served at Traeger.)
- The buses will load after the lunch period - students may choose to eat school lunch, bring their own lunch, or sit quietly until the buses arrive.
- Bus pickup/drop-off times will be sent along with course confirmations.
*When requesting Courses please pick bus first, if you did not, you may have to add them as an alternate

GYMNASTICS, TUMBLING 3-5 | For students currently in grades 3 - 5. This class will focus on 2 areas each day. The first half of class will consist of basic gymnastics and tumbling and the second half of the class will consist of organized ball games. Students will learn common gymnastics positions, and will construct their own routines consisting of different types of rolls, cartwheels, round offs, tripods and headstands. This is a basic weight lifting/strength training course that has been designed strictly for middle school students. This class will put emphasis on proper weightlifting techniques, safety when it comes to working out with exercise equipment, healthy lifestyle choices, speed and agility drills. For students entering grade 6. Summer Orchestra Jumpstart Camp is a one week class. Students will learn the basic skills of their instruments, including parts of the instrument, how to hold the instrument, how to make the beginning sounds on their instrument playing pizzicato and using the bow, and they will begin to read music on the musical staff. These skills will help increase their confidence as they get ready to start the school year. Lots of fun activities are planned and a concert on the last day of camp!
