School Choice / Out of Attendance Area Request

We are proud to offer an exceptional education at every school in our district. Our comprehensive facilities plan ensures our schools are the right size to serve all students in our community.

We believe the school designated for a student's home attendance area provides the best option for engaging instruction and supportive services. Our schools are staffed with talented educators and equipped with resources to meet diverse student needs.

Given the strength of our school options, we're transparent that few school choice / out-of-attendance area (OOAA) requests will be approved. Requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis and may be denied due to capacity constraints, even if the requested school has open seats. This is to maintain our efficient, formula-based staffing model and ensure financial responsibility.

• The School Choice/OOAA request process for enrolled students for the upcoming school year is open as follows.
  • High School - December 1 - January 12 
  • Middle School - April 1 - August 1
  • Elementary School - April 1 - August 1
• Application Review
  • High School - February
  • Middle School - Mid-August
  • Elementary School - Mid-August
• Families with a current approved School Choice/OOAA do NOT need to reapply UNLESS:
  • Their child is moving to a new school level (e.g., elementary to middle school)
  • The family has moved to a new address - Reapply for the upcoming school year
• To make a School Choice/OOAA request, the student must already be enrolled in the Oshkosh School District.
  • If the student will be new to the district in the upcoming year, they cannot submit a School Choice/OOAA request until the general enrollment period opens on April 1.
• Only parents/guardians who have approved guardianship of a student in Infinite Campus are able to submit a School Choice/OOAA request. 
• If approved, the responsibility for transporting the student to and from the out-of-attendance area school rests entirely with the parent/guardian of a student under 18, or the student if aged 18 and over.
• Priority is given to requests involving siblings at the desired school, students with specialized needs that can't be met at their home school, and early applicants. 
• Applications will only be denied if there is insufficient capacity at the requested school, if the student's special education needs cannot be accommodated, or if there are attendance concerns. 
• High School students must sign an attendance contract at the approved school.
• Approval of a School Choice/OOAA request is only guaranteed for one year, and continuation of the approval is reviewed each year and may be denied based on the upcoming year’s actual enrollment.

To make a request to attend an out-of-attendance area school (a school different than the student’s designated home school), please follow the instructions below. 

• 1. Log in to Infinite Campus
  • To begin the process, log in to your Infinite Campus Parent Portal account. You can access Infinite Campus through the school district's website or by visiting oshkoshwi.infinitecampus.org/campus/portal/oshkosh.jsp. 
• 2. Navigate to the School Choice Option
  • Once logged in, click on the "More" menu in the left-hand navigation.
  • Select the "School Choice" option from the menu.
• 3. Select the school(s) your are requesting  
• 4. Submit the Out-of-Attendance Area Request
